A playback singer is a singer whose singing is prerecorded for use in movies. Playback singers record songs on soundtracks, and actors or actresses lip-sync the songs for cameras. Movies produced especially in the Indian subcontinent commonly employ this format.
A majority of Bollywood, Sandalwood, Tollywood, Mollywood and Kollywood movies in India, and Lollywood in Pakistan, typically include six or seven songs. Popular playback singers in India enjoy the same "star" status as popular actors, and talented music directors also receive high public admiration. The sisters Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar, for example, are well-known and prolific, with Bhosle having recorded over 12,000 songs.The other popular singres are Mohmmad Rafi,Mukesh,Talat Mehmood,Hemant Kumar, Manna Dey,Kishor Kumar,Mahendra Kapoor,Suraiya,Shamsad Begam,Geeta Dutt,Sudha Malhotra,Suman Kalyan pur,Hemlata,Vani Jiaram,Anuradha Pondwal,Udit Narayan and many more. Kumar Sanu is another established playback singer has broken a record of singing 28 songs in a single day.
Where as , A person who is singing is called a singer or vocalist. Singers perform music known as songs that can either be sung a cappella (without accompaniment) or accompanied by musicians and instruments. Singing is often done in a group, such as a choir. Nearly anyone who can speak can sing, since in many respects singing is merely a form of sustained speech. It can be informal and just for pleasure, for example, singing in the shower or karaoke; or it can be very formal, such as singing done professionally as a performance or in a recording studio. Singing at a high amateur or professional level usually requires a certain amount of innate talent and a great deal of regular practice, and/or instruction
Professional singers usually build their careers around one specific musical genre and undergo voice training, provided by a voice teacher or coach throughout a career.
