Over the years, people tend to misinterpret this system. When this system got misinterpreted, people tend to practicize it wrongly. Over the years, instead of being a noble tradition, where parents tend to gift their daughters and son-in-laws some wedding gift at the time of marriage, as a token of love and such gesture towards their beloved daughter, it has more become a curse to the society now. The word, wedding gift has assumed a new name "Dowry" over the years and with each and every passing day. This holy tradition has taken the shape of monstar, created lust in the mind of people for extracting money from the family members of the girl.

Its Holy, till the purpose of dowry or giving cash or material is for the survival of newly married couple.

Dowry is not holy at all. It is neither part of Hindu tradition. It was given out of affection for a daughter inorder to keep her pride for some time till she gets over her initial inhibitions with her new husband, so that her needs are taken care of.But after a period of time, it was considered a gift for the son in law and the MIL would never forgive any slight that befalls the SIL, in the form of negligence in giving dowry.Thus it became a convention.today it has become a menace as people expect entire household articles for running a family to be given. It makes marriage a painful experience for everyone around.In fact the strictest measures of punishment should be given to those torturing a bride for bringing lesser than what is expected.
