The Gupta period was compared to the Perriclean Age of the Greeks was was refferred to as the Classical Age of India by a famous historian named Barnett. The Gupta age was referred to as the golden age because this was the period in indian history when literature, architecture, and fine arts fluorised and were at the peak of excellence. The definition for a classical age is: classical age is where literature, architecture, and fine arts reach a high level of excellence to form a standard for later times. Therefore, all other art forms that would come about in the future would be compared to the art forms made during the Gupta period. Numerous things were achieved during the Gupta age in India, an author named Kalidasa wrote 2 dramas and 3 poems, and he was known as the Shakespeare of India. (India's greatest philosophers and playwrites existed at this time. The coins of the Gupta age were spectacular, and are one of the main resources to historians who study the Gupta empire in depth.
