love and affection are two faces of same coin. Where there is love affection also lives. You cannot separate affection from love. Affection is an attraction towards the other may be son daughter friend or wife.. It is the disposition of mental feelings towards tehe other. Affection is the first step towards Love. Love is the culmination of ones emotional, mental, physical, spiritual attachment to another person. Unfortunately the word like is often mis-represented by the word love. Love requires a build up of many years that finally allow for the sublimation of each other's egos and the merging of the two individual psyche's into one dynamic and vibrant whole. Love does not, in itself, allow a partition because that would mean destruction of two individuals.
Like allows the normal meet, mate, cohabit, leave, forget, find another and carry on a cycle of experiences.

Love is a celestial element. It is an instinct which comes with us at birth. Gradually it develops in to greater area in a comprehensive way. Love and affection are synonyms and are the same things. I guess what you are actually asking is the difference between love and infatuation...
You can say that infatuation is just a kind of attraction wherein you like the other persons looks, like to spend time with him/her but are not all that serious about spending the entire life with that person.
Love on the other hand is something where you are ready to go to any extent to make your partner happy and when you are fully committed to your partner

Yes, definitely. Affection is a part of love, a way to express love, but doesn't sum up the whole thing, not by a long shot. As stated by Nick, "You will feel an affection for someone you love, but you do not necessarily love someone you feel an affection for." And that's how it is.
