Recording is illegal & if found out by the conversant can sue the recording person in the court of law for which fine as well as punishment is awarded as per the misuse of the recordings.The best example is the current sting operations by various medias.There is another clause which measures the effect i.e if there is truth & used for the public good then the recording person might have minimum or no punishment for ex.an terrorist attck planning,etc

Anytime you call for any service like bank etc chances are your call is getting recorded. I record all my own call for reference. It depends on how you do it. If you are recording calls on an instrument which was taken in your name at home/business you can always claim that you did not want your set to be used for illegal activities or irresponsible acts hence you kept a log of all calls. Further like me you can claim that all calls are recorded automatically and if somebody used your set it is their problem if they got recorded. If however you are bugging some line not in your name you better not get caught or be ready to pay the penalty.
