not to worry you but there is a type of gingivitis that can be misdiagnosed for canker sores. this type of gingivitis is different from canker sores in that there would be multiple red sores all over your gums and a kind of film covering them.

you can get them on your gums but its pretty rare. usually canker sores occur on moveable mouth parts like your cheeks, the inside of your lips, and tongue.

My friend just got a case of canker sores they are on her throat , tongue and lips and gums. And no it is not an STD! She went to the doctor and he gave her an antibotic for them. So yes it is possible to have canker sores anywhere in your mouth!
