An enucleation includes the removal of the eye. However, with modern techniques, an implant can then be placed. A prosthesis can be placed on top of the implant. The implant/prosthesis combination can be done in such a way that the "eye" looks very natural. Furthermore, we can attach your eye muscles to your implant/prosthesis so that you your artificial eye will move when you look up,down, left, and right. Many times, it is very difficult to tell that you have had an implant. Most of the time, an enucleation does not directly cause damage to your other eye. As with any surgery, it is important to discuss all the positive and negative aspects of the surgery with your surgeon.
