The more freaked out you are, the more he will be. My sister is 6 and has had novacian on a few occasions. They numb the cheek with a gel for quite some time so that they won't feel the needle. They usually don't let the kids look at it either so most of the time they don't even realize they are getting a huge shot in their mouth.

I hope you aren't being scammed. There are dentists out there that put kids under terrible procedures on their BABY TEETH, which is totally unnecessary.

Ask your dentist to put some topical anaesthetic on childs gum first, this will stop the injection from hurting. It works really well, if i ever need any treatment i always ask for it!
