Cataracts are more likely to develop in people who have diabetes. This is called Secondary Cataract. Also diabetes leads to Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Oedema (swelling of the retina in diabetes mellitus due to leaking of fluid from blood vessels within the macula), or even Glaucoma (Increase in intra-ocular pressure).

Cataract is caused by metabolic disorder. and In Diabetes, the metabolism is disturbed. I recommend taking Garcinia cambogia (Malabar tamarind) and certain other nutrients to control ur bl. sugar and raise ur body's metabolism. These are food supplements and work better than allopathy meds.

ya...diabetes can cause cataract.

due to raised blood sugar level excess of glucose is converted into advanced glycosylated endproducts (age).one of them is formation of sorbitol which is accumulated in lens.
this cause increase in osmolarity in lens.
to compensate this excess of water enters in lens......this leads in lens swelling......further it damages the fibres of lens with deposition of AGE's.

this causes opacity of lens............................... this is what CATARACT is.
for treatment..........intraocular lens is inserted.
