I think you're partially correct for in many parts of South India, matriarchal families do prevail. The women by their own capacity have to earn the post of decision-maker in a family. Those women who are not economically independent often face this problem. But still it depends mainly on the personality and other wisdom of a woman whether she can achieve it.

In Indian society, the head of family is always a male bcause its a male dominated society. but let me tell u shilpa i m against it bcause i think god has given us the equal abilities then why should girls b treated like this. i dont know about anybody but in my case i will take my wifes decisions also equaly.

The traditional Indian society is patriachial . But that does not mean that the patriach has the last decision in everything . If he is a sensible person he must have taken the decision by discussing it with the wife . Also the most aged person alive in the family, be it the father or the mother actually acts as the head of the family in most cases .
