What is the difference between a camcorder and a digital camera?  

A camcorder is basically designed to capture motion picture(or video) whereas a digital camera is mainly for capturing still images.
Camcorder can capture still images and digital cameras can capture short videos but not as efficiently.

i think both are same that means a camcorder is also a digital camera
but as per the context camcorder is commonly taken as a movie camera or handy camera in which u can record the live memories
(cameras used in recording films live cricket match .....)
and a digital camera commonly goes with a still camera which is used to take photos.
it is called digital camera because the image is converted to electric signals and further converted to digital signals because those signals have to be stored in a digital memory card.

A camcorder is a digital camera, is a stills camera which . Most camcorders can take stills these days, and most digital cameras can take short movies. I would recommend a digital camera unless you want to film specific things. Digital cameras are much smaller andeasier to use.

the only big differences are now the recording media and the focal range
d.cameras use flash memory
camcorders use disc or tape
many cameras can shoot video,and many camcorders can shoot stills

camcorder can also be digital and is used to record the flames at regular intervals so they can be viewed as a film whereas a digital camera takes only is still images

a digital camera takes still shots like your old fashioned film camera, a camcorder takes video like your old super 8. some do both but i would still get the one that suits your most urgent need
