The direct cause is not known but Balanoposthitis may occur because of poor hygiene in uncircumcised men. It is also occur by the use of a bacterial, fungal, caustic soaps, or failure to properly rinse soap off at the time of taking bath. Some disease like Reiter's syndrome and lichen sclerosis et atrophicus may develop this disease.

Rashes on the penis and foul smell discharge
Treatment:
Topical antibiotics like metronidazole cream and antifungals clotrimazole cream or low-potency steroid creams are suggested beneficial for this disease.
Proper hygiene and regular washing of prepuce is useful for the prevention of balanoposthitis.
Circumcision may be promoted in recurrent and recalcitrant cases.
