show him some movies or videos over the same topics n let him relate..

this may work in many way how to remember, first of all just note out the leading events of related chapter, or get revised again and again until it remember, try this way then try to wirte it in rough copy it need some extra hard work but he can do it.

Remembering is easy with children only if they like the topic! The more they like it the more the will think of it. This is the only way that can make him remember it.
Try telling him the thinks in a story like form!
add things he likes ( co relate ).
explain to him the importance of every subject.
take him to the movies that are historical. explain the reason each character plays each role.
tell him the history of his family. mainly the great person.
epics can be explained to him or read puranas
this should make him interested in history.
