I feel if at all there is a breakoff,most often than not, it is both the guy and the gal who are responsible for it.
In a relationship, the golden rule is adjust and adapt to the likes of your partner with no expectations at all. If any one of the two realises this and starts believing it, there is simply no scope for a breakoff !!!!
