Free Hit is a additional ball given to the batsman because of oversteop of the bowler. In simple terms, if the bowler bowls a no ball, by over stepping and not because of hight, a additional ball is given to the batsman in which ha can score as much as he can and he will not be given out in any type of out except a runout. Recently this rule is introduced in one day & 20-20 matches. THis is still to be effective in test matches.

In cricket free hit is given if a bowler over steps the crease and no ball is given. Free hit means batsmen cannot be out and he can be out only by run out. In test matches this free hit is not given but in T20 and ODI format of cricket, free hit is given to batsmen if a bowler balls the no ball...

Richa, A 'Free hit' is given to the batsmen in the ODI's and also in T-20 if a bowler bowls from outside the crease.
The following ball is counted a s a free hit.
In the free hit ball a batsmen cannot be out by any means other than run out.

In a free hit if the same batsmen is facing the ball then no fielding changes can be done. But if the runner is on strike in the free hit ball then fielding changes are allowed.

This rule was started in the ICC Inaugural t-20 world cup and there on in ODI's too, In test match it is not implied.

When a bowler bowl his bowl and his foot goes over the line then empire can give it a No ball and Free hit also. in a free next ball which will bowling by the bowler a batsman can withour scared he can only run out on that bowl.
