A note: Zimbabwe once was at 106 for 4.

Sure radhika,

The first round match was against WEST INDIES - In the first match India to everyone’s surprise beat West Indies in the group match by some 30 odd runs.

Second match was against ZIMBABWE - India beat Zimbabwe as they won the match comfortably by 4 wickets.

Third match was against AUSTRALIA - India lost to them by a huge margin of about 150 runs.

Fourth match was again with WEST INDIES - which this time around they lost by 50 odd runs.

Fifth match was with ZIMBABWE - India won against them.

Sixth and last group match was with AUSTRALIA - it was a must win for India and they won it by a huge margin of 118 runs with brief scorer of India 247 runs in 55.5 overs and Australia 129 all out in just 38.4 overs saw them winning 4 matches overall in the group match which got them to the Semis.

In semi - finals they had to fight against a strong ENGLAND side and they won the match by good help from M.Amarnath.

Finals was against WEST INDIES – who were the defending champions and the toughest team at that time in ODI’s.
But to every one’s surprise India beat them under a tight close match with India at 189 all out and bowling out West Indies for 147.
With this they brought home the World cup first ever won by India Again M.Amarnath was awarded the man of the match as he played a yet another good role of an all rounder.
