Establish for sure who your favorite team is. Do not choose your team based on who won the last championship. No fairweather fans allowed.
Learn valuable information about the team, such as their roster and some of their stats. This will come in handy later.
Buy at least one or more of the following team merchandise: T-shirts, hats, noise makers, playing cards, bumper stickers, shot glasses, pennants, giant inflatable blimps, or jersey. You want to make sure people know who your team is.
Name at least one of your children/pets/loved ones after a player on the team. This will ensure that you have to be a life-long fan.
Be prepared for haters. This is where your knowledge about the team will come in handy as you wittingly defend your team's reputation and make the person look like an idiot.
Learn at least one embarrassing fact about all other teams, so you can quickly turn the conversation away from how bad your team sucks.
As your team continues to lose, take joy in the fact that next year will be better.
