Irani trophy came to an end with Rest of the India winning against Delhi team.

Rest of India team was lead by A.Kumble and Delhi team was lead by V.Shewag.

The Irani Trophy tournament was conceived during the 1959-60 season to mark the completion of 25 years of the Ranji Trophy championship and was named after the late Z.R. Irani, who was associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from its inception in 1928, till his death in 1970. The fixture is always played between the previous year's Ranji Trophy winners and the Rest of India Team.

History of Irani trophy-
The first match, played between the Ranji Trophy champions and the Rest of India was played in 1959-60 with the trophy being instituted in the name of Zal Irani, long time treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and a keen patron of the game. For the first few years, it was played at the fag end of the season. Realizing the importance of the fixture, the BCCI moved it to the beginning of the season. Since 1965-66, it has traditionally heralded the start of the new domestic season.

Well Jatin, the match played between Delhi and Rest of india ...............rest of india won the toss and elected to bat first in IPCL sports complex Vadodara.........
rest of india made 252 run in their 1st inning and in reply delhi made only 177 run in just 57 over........and after in 2nd inning rest of india made 302 runs

now upto stumps delhi requires 265 runs require with 7 wicket remaining.........Gautam Gambir was not out at 51 ..........

The match is played between Delhi vs Rest of India,IPCL Sports Complex, Vadodara and rest of India won the toss elected to bat first. Rest of India were bundled out for 252 runs in just 81.3 overs and top scorer was W Jaffer who scored 50 runs, second highest score was that of R Dravid who scored 46 runs and the rest of batsmen were disappointing. S Badrinath, V.V.S.Laxman, MS Dhoni, M Kaif, A Kumble(c) were all got out very cheaply. Delhi bowlers who bowled superbly were Pradeep Sangwan 3 wkts, Ishant Sharma 3 wkts, Chetanya Nanda 3 and shewag 1 wkt but Nehra was wicket less and was disappointing as well...

Delhi were dismissed for only 177 runs in just 57 overs in their first innings, top scorers were Virender Sehwag 43 and Akash Chopra 42. All the other batsmen were disappointing, Gambhir and Kohli got out cheaply and gave away lead of 75 runs to rest of India. Munaf Patel destroyed the Delhi middle order and took 4 wkts and Zaheer Khan took 2 wkts and Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble took 2 wickets a piece. RP singh was wicket less.

Rest of India in their 2 nd innings score 99 runs and lost on wicket of W Jaffer who got out for just 26 runs.P Sangwan took the alone wicket, Dravid 34 not out and S Badrinath 33 not out stablised the innings and build good partnership. At the end of the 2nd days play Rest of India were 99/1 and gained a valuable 174 runs lead. I think Rest of India will win the match comfortable if Delhi do not bat well in their second innings...

Delhi suffered a mini-collapse before stuttering to 131 for five at lunch on day two of their Irani Cup tie against Rest of India on Thursday.
At lunch, Puneet Bisht (15) and Rajat Bhatia (12) were in the crease with Delhi trailing Rest of India by 121 runs.Resuming on their overnight score of 21 for no loss in reply to Rest of India's first innings total of 252, Delhi lost star opener Gautam Gambhir (5) early in the second over of the day but Aakash Chopra (42) and Virender Sehwag (43) put on 58 runs to steady the innings.Rest of India pacer Munaf Patel removed Chopra to trigger a batting collapse and scalped Virat Kohli (4) and Mithun Manhas (4) as well. In between, Anil Kumble removed the dangerous looking Sehwag to peg Delhi back.
Rajat and Puneet joined hands and played sensibly to ensure there was no further setbacks before lunch is called.
