there is an advantage of using to rams that if one is not working other will support the pc and also the problem that can rise is if 2 rams somehow operate at different speed then you might get blue screen and this might not hamper your computer so use single ram

It doesn't matter in deciding the number of RAM units. Both options are good for better performance. It's not considered as a advantage to have one 1GB RAM in one slot (1 x 1GB) or in two slots (2 x 512MB). Both are the same. Measuring in your RAM performance depends on how much RAM capacity you have, made (similar quality), RAM frequency, Motherboard FSB speed rating compatibility are the necessary factors that counts most. If you install two sticks of RAM that are different speeds, is that one will scale down to the speed of the slower stick (or if they are both faster than the bus speed they will both scale down to match the speed of the bus). If your computer supports dual channel memory, then these mismatched sticks will not even work in the designated slots. Even if you're willing to use two RAMs in two slots, make sure both are similar made (have same frequency) and compatible with your motherboard's FSB rating for optimum performance.

Slots are made to add additional RAM power to your PC/laptop but at the end of the day all it counts how much RAM power you have, whether double slot or single slot it really does not matter Vijay. When RAM card properly inserted - the properties displays your total RAM power.

Well Vijay , both are all right.

If you have two slots for RAM you can go for 2 GB ( 1 GB each )

You can go for any of the two depending on the need and sped you want.
It wont make any harm to your computer.

It would only help you when one Ram does not work.

hi, each of the ram has there own adv, like if u go for 512MB x 2, it one fails u will have atleast one more, and if u want to upgrade then 1 GB single is best, choice is yours
