some people like Avast! or AVG. They also have free versions.
The free versions don't have the built-in features of the pay anti-virus programs, but you can compensate for that by getting additional free programs.

This is a good free package:
-Zone Labs Basic Firewall
-Spybot Search & Destroy Anti-spy
-Spyware Blaster (automatic browser protection)
-AVG Anti-Rootkit
-Avast! Anti-virus

Norton's anti-virus is a bloated, slow program. If you want to have less file space, less free memory, and a slower computer, then that's what you buy.
McAfee isn't good either.

If you lost more than 3 GB, then that's probably due to something else. Malicious software usually doesn't try to hog some hard drive space.

For added security, don't use the Yahoo! browser or Internet Explorer. (The Yahoo! one is based on IE.) Both of those browsers allow malicious activeX controls and IE browser plug-ins to be installed without your knowledge. Opera 9 and Mozilla's Firefox don't use activeX controls, so they are much safer. They are also smaller and more efficient programs.

The best FREE anti-virus is AVG (version 7.5 I believe is out now)
www.download.com and look for AVG.

If you want to pay, I used to use Norton Anti-Virus. Worked great for me for years.

AdAware SE is a great, FREE spyware program too.

To regain the space, you could try defragmenting or running disc clean up, but that is definitely a problem you're having.

But then again, some people like Avast! or AVG. They also have free versions.

Well Shreedhar , although McAfee is a good anti virus bit No32 is the best.

It has the best security features available in it.
I am using it for both office and home.

In office till now we have not faced any problem of security .
Nod32 takes care of all kind of viruses
We only use Internet without being worried about viruses.

Moreover It is developed by ESET, one of the best anti virus brand.

Just download it and than install in your system.

Scan your system to check for viruses. You need to update it after certain period of time so that it can scan the new viruses.
