What is infotainment ? 

The term infotainment is a combinational term of of two sub-terms namely- information and entertainment. The term infromation means - any sort of data which has been processed in the context of a computer system. In other words, any raw data when it is processed systematically in a computer in a series of steps, gets transformed into "information" from the term "data". the data means raw facts, figures, etc example, your date of birth, the year 2007, etc. The term entertainment is associated mainly with the Television programs (such as Cartoon Channel), Web-Sites (On line games etc). on the internet. When the information ahs been combined with the entertainment in the Television such as the program, Animal Planet channel, it could be classed as infotainment as it is a combination of both information and entertainment. Likewise, in the internet, playing online game of chess with a friend somewhere else can be classed as infotainment. Thank you.

Infotainment, combining information with entertainment, is a fairly recent neologism for a television program, Web site feature, or other presentation that combines information with entertainment. Most of today's popular fact-based television shows, such as those on the Animal Planet channel, could be classed as infotainment.

The term "infotainment" thus may be a pejorative among those who hold professional journalistic values in esteem. Infotainment should not be confused with documentaries, educational television, or hard news programming. These go more in depth of the subjects they cover and can even provide classroom level instruction in areas such as mathematics, science, biology, or writing, etc.

We are living in the information age, where getting the right information is exceedingly important for success. The concept of infotainment addresses this beautifully. Infotainment refers to providing. Information in an entertaining manner i.e. infotainment = information + entertainment.
