Ideally all services run in the background whereas this is not the case with porcess. Services are not represented in Task Manager whereas Process do, this is because teh process tab only lists the .exe executable for each application currently running under Windows XP. Now applications are responsible for launching services, but they don't represent a single service: that is, an applicatin can have mulitple service dependences. Representing all of them in the porcess tab doesn't make sense.
