well, Being able to connect to your website via FTP is very useful. You can transfer multiple files from your desktop to your website in a very easy "drag-and-drop" fashion. This is very useful when you are uploading a large number of files or are installing an application to your website, such as WordPress.
I use Filezilla as my FTP client, as it is free and easy to use.
Download it here: http://filezilla-project.org/
Af ter you have installed Filezilla you'll need to gather some information before you get started.
First, go to the place where you host your website and get your FTP hostname. I use Web Hero, so, my FTP host name looks like this: 'ftp.webhero.com'.
1. In Filezilla, click "File", then "Site Manager", then "New Site".
2. Click on "New FTP Site" and the form will allow you to enter the following information:
"host" (place your FTP hostname here),
"servertype" (click FTP),
"logontype" (click the "account" radio button),
"user" (enter the name of your site "example.com"),
"account" (enter the username you use to log in to your site)
"connect" and enter "password" (enter the password you use to log in to your site)
You should see a connect message and Filezilla will list all of your website's folders on the right window pane, and you'll see your PC files listed on the left side.
You can then drag and drop to your website from your PC or vice versa. Make sure you "save and exit" after you have completed your task.
