Well Krish , There are so many good desktop brands in the market so it is hard to choose among them. But ya some brands have an edge over other brands.

You can go for HP / Compaq PCs . They are reliable and feasible too.

If you opt to move on multimedia field then i suggest you AMD 4600+, ASUS M2NPV-MX motherboard, 2GB RAM, LG DVD WRITER and if you wish to move with the same CORE 2 DUO processor then i recommend you to choose INTEL 965RY MOTHERBOARD. It supports upto 8GB RAM.
For RAM choose TRANSCEND 2GB DDR2 667MHZ.
This will help you in programming and also in multimedia.
