Hi,
specting that at least 10 % of the people registered for the Below Poverty Level (BPL) card are actually bogus and have either furnished false details or are not eligible for the benefits, the city administration has ordered for the rechecking ofthe records of all the applicants. The administration has also ordered that the officials responsible for the goof up be pulled up. Gurgaon region has over 40,000 BPL card holders which include about 15,000 registered card holders in the urban pockets while the rest of them are living in rural area of the district.
The city administration swung into action against the bogus BPL card holders following an internal enquiry carried out last month. The findings of the enquiry indicated that approximately 10% of the BPL card holders are undeserving and a major chunk of these bogus card holders are supposed to be in the urban pockets. "Earleir, we hadrecieved general complaints regarding the discrepancies in the BPL records in the district. Now, the administration is verifying the records all over again," said P C Meena, deputy commissioner.
