well, To stream the movies from PC to TV, the easiest way is to copy the videos onto an external hard drive. Then, bring it into the room where the MediaGate is connected to your TV. Alternatively, the movie can be installed inside the MediaGate. Install a SATA drive (formatted as FAT32 or NTFS) inside the MediaGate. With internal drive, it gives the advantage of flexibility and portability. Apart from that, the device can also used as external hard drive.


If you have a home network, you can play the movie by plugging the Networking Cable to the LAN port of the MediaGate. The network would recognize the MediaGate as anotherr PC/Printer.

well, TV cards with basic video capture to mpeg and mpeg-II are around in stores for next to nothing these days. I am sure that you can get hold of one. If you are really into capture, try to get yourself a RAID system for making sure you get quality captures. But for simply watching TV, just the card will do.

a Few of the Television companies in the US have shows online now.
For instance
cbs.com nbc.com abc.com fox.com tnt.tv scifi.com all have a number of shows you can watch via streaming media.
This is a great for those of us that miss an episode.
Generally you can watch them a day or two after the original air date.

Some of the stations have uploaded entire seasons...... such as ABC uploaded LOST seasons 1 2 and 3 in HD

I still have a need for Cable television for the kids shows..... but overall I am pretty happy with streaming shows to my monitor with limited commercial interruptions.

A PCTV device can come either in the form of PCI cards or as an USB device. Personally, I prefer the USB version because I don't really enjoy opening up my PC and messing up my table. Also, the USB version can be used for both desktops and laptops which makes it more versatile.

To watch TV on my PC using satellite tv software is even easier. All I need to do is to download the software (I have to pay for it of course) and install it. Then I get access to thousands of channels immediately. No hardware and no messy wires. My favorite choice.

Portability.

This will apply if you are holding onto a laptop. If I were to watch TV on my PC or laptop with a PCTV device, I will have to carry the device wherever I go to enjoy live TV. While with a satellite TV software, there is nothing to bring except my laptop. Sweet. Also, using software minimizes the chances of me losing the device.
