C is the basic language one should learn and master in this. After master C all the other programming languages become easy to learn, so, one should not skip C in my opinion. Presently .net and Java is having lot of demand. Even PHP a scripting language is also very much in demand for IT firms. No many people are showing interest in php but many of websites run with help of this scripting language
