I don't have any knowledge about the people who are accrediting DNV at Udaipur but I can give you some knowledge base so you can start the accredition procedure. ISO is basically an audit procedure for transparency as per International norms. There are several countries who have arrangements of giving this certificate and basic procedure is same.
First you have to locate somebody or someone who is registered or authorised to audit for ISO. Institute of Engineers, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Regional Testing and Standardization Labs or private consultancy firms in your area. You can also approach Chambers of Commerce also and they maintain list of persons / organisations who can do the audit. You yourself can register and attend the training programmes.
They will make selective surveys and suggest ways to come upto the ISO standard. Certain quality assurance systems and self audit procedures has to be built into your system. They will also guide and train your setup to bring it to ISO level. But you must remember transparency and quality assurance is the main factor. After you get ISO accredition, there will be regular audits to see whether you are upto the level. Registration is followed by an Advertisement in Newspaper but if registration is cancelled due to failure to stick to norm, it is also followed up with advertisement in newspaper.

Well Sachin , The ISO 9000 family of standards represents an international consensus on good quality management practices.
It consists of standards and guidelines relating to quality management systems and related supporting standards.

ISO 9001:2000 is the standard that provides a set of standardized requirements for a quality management system, regardless of what the user organization does, its size, or whether it is in the private, or public sector.
It is the only standard in the family against which organizations can be certified – although certification is not a compulsory requirement of the standard.

The other standards in the family cover specific aspects such as fundamentals and vocabulary, performance improvements, documentation, training, and financial and economic aspects.

The organization may thus avoid multiple audits by its clients, or reduce the frequency or duration of client audits. Sachin, this depends on several factors as size and complexity of operations, number of locations of plants, willingness of owners, type of standards to be implemented etc. For a typical SSI whose processes are not very complex, total cost in terms of fee for consultation and initial certification usually does not exceed Rupees One Lac.


The good news is, Govt. of India through Development Commissioner, Small Scale Industry grants a reimbursement of upto of 75% of expenses (subject to a maximum of Rs.75000/-) incurred for getting ISO 9000 certification to all the registered small scale units. There are other agencies as well that support implementation of ISO in SSIs as State Bank of India, State Governments.

Formalities?
Depending upon the commitment of the owner-managers, the time taken could be 3 months to one year.

The phases of ISO 9000 certification consists of two parts i.e., documentation and certification.

The documentation part can be done in house or by the help of a consultants. Normally every company takes the services of a experienced consultant to develop and introduce the system.

The certification is done by an agency accredited in this regard. The certification agency normally divides into activities into two parts documentation review, which may be done with or without visits to your works and compliance audit that is conducted at your site.

ISO 9000 is maintained by ISO, the International Organization for Standardization and is administered by accreditation and certification bodies. Some of the requirements in ISO 9001 (which is one of the standards in the ISO 9000 family) include

a set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business;
monitoring processes to ensure they are effective;
keeping adequate records;
checking output for defects, with appropriate corrective action where necessary;
regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself for effectiveness; and
facilitating continual improvement
A company or organization that has been independently audited and certified to be in conformance with ISO 9001 may publicly state that it is "ISO 9001 certified" or "ISO 9001 registered." Certification to an ISO 9000 standard does not guarantee the compliance (and therefore the quality) of end products and services; rather, it certifies that consistent business processes are being applied.

Although the standards originated in manufacturing, they are now employed across a wide range of other types of organizations. A "product", in ISO vocabulary, can mean a physical object, or services, or software. In fact, according to ISO in 2004, "service sectors now account by far for the highest number of ISO 9001:2000 certificates - about 31% of the total." [1]

ISO 9000 family

ISO 9001:2000 Quality management systems - Requirements is intended for use in any organization which designs, develops, manufactures, installs and/or services any product or provides any form of service. It provides a number of requirements which an organization needs to fulfill if it is to achieve customer satisfaction through consistent products and services which meet customer expectations. It includes a requirement for the continual (i.e. planned) improvement of the Quality Management System, for which ISO 9004:2000 provides many hints.
This is the only implementation for which third-party auditors may grant certification. It should be noted that certification is not described as any of the 'needs' of an organization as a driver for using ISO 9001 (see ISO 9001:2000 section 1 'Scope') but does recognise that it may be used for such a purpose (see ISO 9001:2000 section 0.1 'Introduction').
