After you have run Windows XP for a while, you may receive this message when you log on: “Your password will expire in 14 days…..”. By default, Windows XP is set up with passwords which will expire after 42 days. And 14 days in advance, Windows will start warning you of this fact.

1. Go to Start > Run > type control userpasswords2
2. Select the Advanced tab in the User Accounts window.
3. Press the Advanced button below the Advanced user management header.
4. Select Users in the Local Users and Groups.
5. In the right pane, right-click the user name for which you want to change the setting, and select Properties.
6. On the General tab, check Password never expires.
7. Click Apply and OK

well jain The problem comes in when your local user account has been set to expire the password, because there's not an obvious place to change that setting in Vista, although it's easy to do. Note that this problem doesn't exist in the Home editions of Windows.

Open the Local Users and Groups administration panel by typing in lusrmgr.msc into the start menu search box. (or the Run box on XP) Select "Users" in the left hand pane, and then double-click your user account in the list.



On this screen you'll find the "Password never expires" checkbox.



Just make sure the box is checked and you won't be forced to change your password anymore.

Windows XP/Vista Home Users

If you are using the Home edition of Windows, you can download User Manager for XP/Vista Home from XPHomeTools. It's a shareware software, but you can use the trial version to disable expiration.

By default, In Windows XP passwords have an expiration date and Windows XP user Passwords will expire after 42 days, and when you try to log on, Windows XP display below message:

"Your password will expire in 14 days.....".

To disable Password Expiration:

* Go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management or Click Start > Run > and type control userpasswords2 and click OK to run User Accounts Click the advanced tab, and then press the advanced button.

Select Users in the Local Users and Groups In right side, double click on your username, in General tab, check “Password never expires” and finally click ok

2. In the MMC main window, under the new security template node, expand the Account Policies node.
3. Expand the Password Policy node.

5. Select the Define this policy setting in the template checkbox.
6. Set Password will not expire to 0 days.
7. Click OK and save the template.
8. Create a component for this security template and add it to your image, by following the steps to Create a Component for a Custom Security Template and to Include a Custom Security Template in your Runtime Image

Windows xp professional’s password expires after 42 days. You can disable expiring of windows passwords if this is a bother.

- In the control panel, double-click on administrator tools, the computer management. Expand local users and groups. Under users, right-click on the account of your choice and click properties. Check the box for “password never expires”.

The question came up again recently regarding how to change the default user account password expiration settings. The steps below to apply a custom security template during FBA are from our online docs...

By default, when you add user accounts to your image, the user is prompted to change the password 15 days before it will expire. In some types of deployments, it is not feasible or desirable for end-users to change passwords. You can create a custom security template that turns off password expiration and add it to your image so that it runs during First Boot Agent.

Note: Weak passwords are a potential security vulnerability and can allow hackers access to your system. It is always advised to configure all user accounts with strong passwords.

To remove password expiration from User Accounts

2. Select the Advanced tab in the User Accounts window
3. Press the Advanced button below the Advanced user management header
4. Select Users in the Local Users and Groups
5. In the right pane, right-click the user name for which you want to change the setting, and select Properties
6. On the General tab, check Password never expires
7. Click Apply and OK (all the way out)

Prevents users from changing their Windows password on demand.

This policy disables the Change Password button on the Windows Security dialog box (which appears when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL).

However, users are still able to change their password when prompted by the system. The system prompts users for a new password when an administrator requires a new password or their password is expiring.

Disable Expiring Of Windows Passwords
