how to block all websites access except some,I am usin somesoftware where I can just block particular sites, please provide me the way or link for the same,  

hi ranvir You can easily and effectivily block access to a website by adding it to your Windows HOSTS file.(Yes, Hosts is capitalised for some strange reason). Without any software. Doesn't matter what browser that you use.

1.Go to your HOSTS file which is located at:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ET C for windows Vista and XP
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for Windows 2k
C:\WINDOWS for Windows 98 and ME

2. Open HOSTS with Notepad.

The default Windows HOSTS looks like this:

3. Directly under the line that says 127.0.0.1 Localhost, you will want to type:

127.0.0.1 name of the URL you want to block

For example to block the MySpace.com homepage (highly recommended!), simply type:

127.0.0.1 myspace.com
127.0.0.1 www.myspace.com

Other parts of MySpace could be blocked in a similar way:

127.0.0.1 search.myspace.com
127.0.0.1 profile.myspace.com
etc etc etc...

You may need to add sites with both with and without the "www.". Test after blocking to make sure you got it right.

You can add as many sites as you wish to block in this fashion. I, myself, have over 12000 undesireable and dangerous sites in my personal HOSTS file!

4. Close Notepad and answer "Yes" when prompted.

5. Reboot your computer and attempt to access your now blocked website. You should see a Cannot find server or DNS Error saying: "The page cannot be displayed".

Some people suggest that you add a website that you wish to block by adding it to Internet Explorer's Restricted Zone. This does NOT totally block a site. It will only RESTRICT a site from certain actions such as using javascript, Active-X and Java etc.

Some people suggest that your add a website to the Internet Explorer 'Privacy' settings. This does not block a site. It only stops that site from using cookies

Such a proxy also allows you to visit sites that have banned your IP. This might be a forum or just a website or blog from which you or other users on your IP range (whether on your school or company network or your ISP account) have been barred access. The proxy server is an open gateway between your web destination and you.

Other proxies exist, such as www.the-cloak.com (please make sure you include the hyphen in that URL or you will be in for a shock), and the proxy.org site provides a shipload more.

If you would like to block a website from being viewed on your Windows system (from any web browsers), follow these steps:

Navigate to the folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

First backup the 'hosts' file. Right click on 'hosts' and click 'Open'. In the 'open with' program selection, click to open with 'Notepad'. At the end of the line you can see as per below.

127.0.0.1 localhost

Append the following line at the end

127.0.0.1 xyz.com (replace the xyz.com with the site name that you want to block). You can add as many lines as possible. Each line should prefix 127.0.0.1 along with the site address you want to restrict. Save it.

then go to Start->Run-> type ipconfig /flushdns

That's it! You just restricted any site you want with this method.

hello singh You have many options:

1. Third-party site-blocking software
2. Add entries in the hosts file
3. Get a router, or if you already have one, use it to block access to
various web sites.
OR Sure it does.

You're running Windows XP.

Be logged in as a privileged user.

Open a DOS command window, type:
notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hos ts

Put the following line in hosts:
127.0.0.1 www.google.com

File > Save.

Now try to open http://www.google.com with any web browser on the PC.

Remove the line you added from hosts to restore access to the Googl;e
