If you're using Internet Explorer (IE) and want to change the default download directory to that of your choice (i.e. D:\), you need to tweak the registry a bit. Click Start - Run - type Regedit. Now expand this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer
Change the value of the string "Download Directory" (on the right side) to the new path you want to assign as IE's Default Download directory i.e. "D:\". That's it. Generally whenever a download prompt appears, you can change the default location to where you're preferred.
For Firefox browsers: Click Tools - Options - Under the "Main" tab, under "Downloads" category, select "Save files to" button and choose D:\ as the directory.
In case, if you are using download accelerator programs like DAP or Flashget, you can change the default downloading directory in the Options. For example, in Flashget, Click Tools - Default Download Properties. Here for each category set your "Save to" directory as D:\.
