How to exit safe mode when i reformated my pc?  

From your description its probably not a virus.

1. If you get a low memory warning and it tells you to close some programs then you may have to much running at once. Any icons you see in the bottom right near your clock are programs that are running at some level. Open each of them (usually a right click) and find the option that says "start when windows starts" and turn it OFF. This can also be caused by a very low amount of RAM 128mb or lower (for that old of a system). this will also speed up the startup time of the computer. Adding more RAM could also alleviate this problem, you just have to find out what type you need.

2. Try restarting your computer in Safe Mode, then try and run the virus scan. you might also want to scan for adware and spyware too while your at it (one scanner at a time).

3. Check your free hard disk space C: drive, if it is above 90 percent full then you need to clear up some space. once you clean up some space run defrag on it. If you have never done this it can affect the speed of your computer and make it sluggish.

4. Windows ME is a beast of a problem just as itself, If you have tried the above and still feel that you need to reformat or upgrade to XP (not vista, that computer will die). Make sure before you do anything that you burn any files you want to keep to CD/DVD or copy them to an external hard drive or thumb drive (depending on how much data you are backing up). If you choose the wrong option while reformatting you will loose all files forever(pretty much) that were on the hard drive.

be careful though if you do have a virus because you could re-infect the computer by transfering an infected file to the freshly re-formatted computer.

Put in your ME Home install disc, go into Recovery Console, and type this:

format C: /fs:ntfs

Or you can do a quick format like this:

format C: /fs:ntfs /q

A regular format will wipe out your hard drive and write over the entire drive so it's completely empty. A quick format will just erase any information about where programs and files are stored, and overwrite them as new ones are installed. When it's done, type exit and your computer will restart. Install ME.

If you want to keep any of your old files, you'll need to back them up first, either to an external hard drive/flash drive or a CD/DVD.

Go to killdisk.com and download the image file to a blank CD ROM. Then boot your PC to the CD. Follow the instructions and it will totally wipe out your hard drive (reformat it). Then it is up to you to install your operating system again.

If you don't like Windows ME why don't you try Ubuntu Linux or PCLinuxOS? Very easy to use and will work great on older PCs. Check out www.distrowatch.com for different releases of Linux that might be custom for you. Ubuntu is by far the most popular and user friendly.

well if ur computer got reformatted then there should be no safe mode to go into. you most probably got some nasty virus, i have seen a similar case, usually the best solution is to properly reformat and reinstall windows.

Before you reformat/reinstall WinME give this a try

Update your anti-virus

Update your anti-spyware software.

Restart your PC in safe mode

And run a full scan with both.

You may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.

You are in command prompt more than just type exit and enter you can just press the power turn off your CPU to do so

When you reformatted the PC, the system can't boot in the first place from the hard disk drive as the reformat completely erases whatever OS/files inside the drives. So how could you be in the Safe Mode?

Anyways you need to install the OS to initiate the boot. Insert the Windows XP (or any OS) bootable CD into the CD drive and change the booting order in BIOS to boot the system from the CD. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt appears, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup. Follow the instructions on the screen to select a partition (which you already reformatted) where you want to install Windows XP. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Windows XP Setup. Now remove the XP bootable setup CD from the CD drive and change the boot order in BIOS to boot from the 1st Hard disk drive (where you installed the OS) and restart the system. Now you can enter the OS in normal mode and use the OS efficiently.
