you can copy programs to DVD-R (or +R for that matter). That is why DVD burning programs are around. If you prefer commercial CD/DVD Burning or mastering software, you might want to look at Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite or Nero Burning ROM instead. When you purchase the DVD writers, these commercial softwares will come bundled with the writer package with free license. Alternatively you can use freeware CD/DVD burners like CDBurnerXP, InfraRecorder, DeepBurner, Ultimate CD/DVD Burner, Burn Aware, ImgBurn too.
Alright! once your DVD writer and DVD burning programs are installed, make sure you have all the programs/files/documents in one folder in your hard drive. You may have different folders under the main folder for categories. Now fire up the DVD burning program (Such as NERO Express), Put the empty DVD-R disc in the drive. Select the Data disc format/select make Data DVD option (Not Music/Video as you're copying the programs only). Now add the main folder that contains all the programs. Check the file size whether the added files doesn't go beyond the disc limit. (DVD5 supports 4.7GB size, DVD9 (DL) supports 9.4GB size). Click Next. Select the Recorder (i.e. DVD drive). Enter the name/label to identify the disc and click BURN. Wait till the burning completed. It'll display the information on screen. Click OK to complete. Now the burned DVD will be ejected.
