The original version in Sanskrit is attributed to Sage Valmiki. Later there have been so many versions and interpretations in several Indian languages. The most popular one for North Indians is RAMCHARIT MANAS by Goswami Tulsidas.

It was written by sage Valmiki and Ram Charit Manas was written by Tulsidasji. The only difference is that it is in poetic format.

Been wracking my mind trying to find the answer.If I say it was Valmiki ,some people may get upset.How dare I name a dacoit.Then there was a contender from south too,the congress party s spokesperson may deny,but our finance minister Knows because its his native town Karaikudi they hold a festival every year.
