Telling lie is always bad and wrong. In " Mahabharath Udh", Bheemasenan killed an elephant called "ASWATHAMA",and shouted in the war field as if he killed the real " ASWATHAMA" ,for Kouravar to hear.It was an intentional lie,the lie not considered as bad, because he killed the Aswathama elephant This was the only way to kill his father,"Dronar".A trick adviced by Bhagvan Krishna.
The answer to your question lies here. For some good things, one can, for time being, intentionally tell lie. Only the thing, there should not be any bad intention or motivation to gain some thing from it.With one more real example I am concluding the answer.
Few weeks back one of my neighbour,a very young and energetic man aged 40,working in a bank died of heart attack, about 300kms away from our place. The death was all of a sudden within 10 minutes, soon after he talked to his wife here.Within half an hour the bank people informed us,the close neighbours. We decided not to inform his wife.Meanwhile one of her relative informed her that her husband had an attack and is in serious condition.Meanwhile nearly 100 bank employees arrived here after hearing the news.We kept on telling lie to her that he is only serious and nothing happend, till she saw the dead body.We told the lie in good intention only.
