When it comes to alcohol, men and women are inherently unequal and no legislation can impose sexual equality on them. It's absolutely essential for the health and safety of women to understand this inequality and act accordingly.
Hormone changes during the menstrual cycle can also affect alcohol metabolism adversely, increasing the impact of alcohol.
The bottom line is that a woman who hopes to "hold her own" in drinking against a man is putting herself at great risk.
The good news is that, contrary to common myth, alcohol is not fattening and research has demonstrated that for many women, drinking leads to slight weight loss. [see Alcohol, Calories and Weight]
What are you doing drinking? Do you know the number of women who drink themselves unconscious and are raped afterwards? Do you know the number of men who happily walk out of court because in this society “drinking” means “consent to sex”?
I’m gonna tell you what you did. You assumed, merrily, that equality between the genders is a reality. And so you have bought into the idea that a woman can drink as much as a man, enjoy the same things they do, in the same way. There are many women who do the exact same thing. However, for some unlucky ones, that adventure ends up in rape. They have taken the equality thing as face value, just to have it exploding in their faces. You know why? Because equality between the genders is NOT a reality. Are men raped as a result of heavy drinking? No. It’s women. WOMEN. NOT MEN.
If you have been raped as a result of heavy drinking, then the last thing you need to hear is that it was your fault. And I am in no way saying it is. Or that you deserve what happened to you. The man who raped you is responsible for raping you. Full stop. But you are responsible for drinking, rape or no rape. What I’m saying here is that while you were enjoying yourself in the same way that men do, you were totally oblivious to the fact that real life is not the same for men and women. What I’m saying is that you SHOULD have been aware of it. You should know that rape is a reality, that raping drunk women is a growing trend, that if you were raped while drunk you have little to no chance to state your case in a court of law. Meaning there’s little to no chance that the guy who raped you will be stopped. Meaning that no one believes that raping a drunk woman is that big a business.
You may get angry at the thought of not being able to enjoy drunken-ness like men do because you are a woman. You have every right to be angry. But drinking and pretending “bad things don’t happen” will not change the reality. If you are angry, become a feminist. Campaign. Move your arse. Were you there at the movement to raise awareness about the low conviction rates for rape in this country? I guess not. There were 5 women there, trying to open the eyes of a whole society to the fact that rape conviction rates are at an all time low, and falling. And that something should be done about it. Because reality is not the same for men as it is for women. Neither are the privileges, nor are the dangers.
I blame men for raping. But I blame women for drinking.
